Big second half keys Monroe
ROCHESTER - MCC broke open a scoreless tie with two quick second-half goals and went on to a 3-0 victory over Community College of Rhode Island Saturday afternoon.
The sixth-ranked Tribunes moved to 5-1-1 with the win.
Monroe had a handful of opportunities in the first half, outshooting the Knights 16-2. But the team couldn't find the back of the net and the game entered the half tied at zero.
It stayed that way until the 56th minute. Annie Terilli (Brockport, NY/Brockport) sent a corner kick toward the goal and the CCRI goalie got a hand on it but couldn't clear it. Catherine Mucha (Nunda, NY/Keshequa) was there to punch it in for her fifth goal of the year to make it 1-0.
MCC added to the lead two minutes and two seconds later, as Kaylen O'Brien (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) scored off a feed from Shauna Eccles (Dublin, Ireland/Larkin).
Jori Semrau (Greece, NY/Greece Arcadia) finished the scoring for the Tribunes, converting a pass from Brittney Lee (Olean, NY/Olean) to provide the final margin.
Chloe Crook (London, England/Holy Family) earned the shutout in goal, stopping seven Knight shots.
