Tribunes rally to sweep pod matches

ROCHESTER - The MCC volleyball team rallied to defeat Alfred State and sweep two matches in an intrapod tournament Thursday.

Monroe (10-2) dropped the first two sets 25-23 and 25-23 before rebounding to take the next three 25-17, 25-20, and 15-12 to get the win.

The Tribunes had defeated Finger Lakes CC in five exciting games earlier in the day.  Scores were 25-15, 17-25, 25-21, 17-25, and 15-12 in favor of Monroe.

Ashley Kelly (Greece, NY/Greece Athena) had 16 kills to pace the attack against Finger Lakes.  Paige Calabrese (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) finished with 18 digs and Virginia Combs (Penfield, NY/Mercy) passed out 37 assists.

Kelsi Blum (Livonia, NY/Livonia) had 17 kills in the nightcap against Alfred State.  Erica Thompson (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-No. Syracuse) finished with seven kills and four blocks, while Kelly added 11 kills.

Allison Miller (Newark, NY/Newark) chipped in with three kills and three blocks and Calabrese had 27 digs.
