Morrell wins title, sets national record in 50 free

BUFFALO -MCC sophomore Mallory Morrell (Rush, NY/Rush-Henrietta) set a NJCAA national record as she captured the individual national championship in the 50 freestyle Thursday evening at the 2011 NJCAA championship meet.

Morrell finished  in a time of 22.94 seconds, which bettered her own mark of 22.97 she set earlier in the day in the preliminaries.  The record coming into the meet was 23.13, set in 2009 by Indian River State College's Mary O'Sullivan.

Morrell's efforts helped propel the Tribunes into fourth place in the overall team standings.  The MCC men are also in fourth place heading into Friday.  Team scores and events results (with MCC's top finisher) are below.
