MCC tops ECC in title game rematch
ROCHESTER - Monroe Community College scored three goals in a span of 36 seconds late in the second period to help defeat rival Erie CC 7-2 in an ice hockey contest Wednesday night.
The game was a rematch of the 2011 national championship, won by the Kats. The Tribunes moved to 9-1 with the win, including 4-0 against regional opponents.
Leading 2-1 heading toward the second intermission, Monroe exploded for three goals to take a commanding lead. Bobby Thomaris (Elmira, NY/Elmira Notre Dame) got things started with 1:21 left, slamming home a rebound off a shot by Tim Young (Chili, NY/Aquinas) to make it 3-1.
Connor Smith (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) continued the flurry with a goal just nine seconds later to make it 4-1. Smith finished the run, completing a hat trick with 45 seconds left before the break.
