MCC golfers set to defend title

CHAUTAUQUA, NY - The Monroe Community College golf team will begin its national title defense Tuesday as the Tribunes tee off at the 2010 NJCAA Division III tournament at Chautauqua Golf Course.

Monroe ran away from the field a year ago, finishing with a team score of 1,173.  That score was 30 strokes better than the runner-up.  MCC also won the national title in 2006.

Five golfers will represent the Tribunes at Chautauqua: sophomores Ben Finn (Macedon, NY/Gananda) and Tyler Phillips (Williamson, NY/Williamson), and freshmen Matt DeJohn (Geneva, NY/Geneva), Eric Principino (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta), and Tim McCall (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker).

Phillips tied for 21st at nationals a year ago, and Finn tied for 26th.

MCC enters the tournament winners of every event so far this season.  The tournament begins with a practice round on Monday, June 7, with the tournament running Tuesday through Friday.
