MCC goes wire-to-wire for national title
CHAUTAUQUA, NY - The MCC golf team wrapped up a wire-to-wire victory at the NJCAA Division III national tournament at Chautauqua Golf Course, holding off Rock Valley College for its second consecutive national title.
The Tribunes shot a 301 in Friday's final round to finish at 1,217 on the tournament. Rock Valley had a 299 but finished at 1,223.
It's the third title overall for Monroe, which also claimed the 2006 title in addition to the last two.
Matt DeJohn (Geneva, NY/Geneva) had a 1-under 71 on Friday to pace the Tribunes. DeJohn finished 9-over on the tournament, which tied him for third place overall.
Ben Finn (Macedon, NY/Gananda) shot a 76 to finish at 10-over, which was sixth place overall. Tyler Phillips (Williamson, NY/Williamson) was seventh after shooting a 74 Friday.
Tim McCall (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) and Eric Principino (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) rounded out the final-round scoring for MCC with 81s.
Chris Ferraro of SUNY Ulster took individual medalist honors with a four-day total of 2-under par. Andrew Steinhofer of Madison College was second at 1-under.
