MCC wins second straight regional title

ITHACA, NY - Heading into day two with just a two-stroke lead, the MCC golf team pulled away to claim another Region III championship at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club at Cornell University Tuesday.

It was the second consecutive regional title for Monroe, which will now head to nationals at Chautauqua Golf Club, June 7-11.  MCC is the defending Division III national champ.

The Tribunes finished with a total team score of 642.  Second-place Erie was 17 strokes back at 659.

All five MCC golfers finished in the top 13.  Matt DeJohn (Geneva, NY/Geneva) was Monroe's top scorer with a 79-80-159.  Eric Principino (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) was right behind with a 80-81-161.

Ben Finn (Macedon, NY/Gananda) shot a 78-83-161, while Tim McCall (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) fired a 78-86-164.  Taylor Page (Holley, NY/Holley) rounded out the scoring with an 81-83-164.
